Mission: To protect and restore Armenia’s forests for current and future generations

In order to stop the destruction of Armenia’s forests, we need to address the underlying causes which include demand for cheap fuel, the lack of affordable alternative energy, the greed of a few, corruption, as well as inadequate policies and lack of enforcement. Armenian Forests NGO seeks to address these issues as a means to attaining the overall objective of protecting Armenia’s forests for current and future generations. Specifically, Armenian Forests NGO seeks the following objectives for Armenia:

I. Protection of forested areas

II. Expansion of healthy forest areas

III. Transition to sustainable forest management

Armenian Forests NGO aims to accomplish these objectives through a broad based approach including:

• Supporting alternative energy to reduce the demand for wood as fuel
• Attracting investment and funding which emphasizes protection of Armenia’s natural resources as a means of long term prosperity
• Developing and implementing models of local reforestation and stewardship
• Conducting public education and outreach through the news media
• Supporting a broad based effort towards reforestation, protection and stewardship of Armenia’s natural resources
• Supporting local and national policies in line with international covenants
